Pea Soup Andersen's Gift Shop and Museum in Buelton

Of course there is the famous coffee shop and restaurant which we highly recommend, but there is also a very well stocked gift shop and museum.

The Solvang Restaurant

1672 Copenhagen Dr, Solvang, CA 93463
(805) 688-4645

There are three main reasons to visit the Solvang Restaurant (in our opinion).  One, is to have a great traditional breakfast.  Two, to have an affordable lunch in the heart of Solvang.  And Three to get their incredible aebleskivers.  These are round pastries.  We usually get the aebleskivers to go from their take-out window or if it is early in the morning you simply go to the register and pay for them inside the restaurant.

Elverhoj Museum

Located at: 1624 Elverhoy Way, Solvang, CA 93463
(805) 686-1211

Cost: Free for 12 and under and a suggested donation of 5 dollars for adults.

There are many great things about the Elverhoj Museum.   No matter what a museum has to offer, I am well aware that parents are always thinking about price or cost of each thing they are about to do. The positive thing about this museum is that as of  2015 the museum is free for children twelve and under and only a 5 dollar donation for adults.  Therefore our family of  4 got in for only 10 dollars.

Mission Santa Ines. The self guided tour and gift shop.

Mission Santa Ines
1760 Mission Drive • Solvang, CA  93463
(805) 688-4815

Taking the tour of the Mission is a must for anyone visiting the Solvang Area.  Your visit starts out with noticing the structure adjacent to downtown Solvang.  There is ample free parking and then you walk right into the gift shop were you could purchase the very nominally cost self guided tour.
Our family of four only cost us 10 dollars (Winter 2014).   We love the fact that there were so many artifacts from the time period.

Another Great Visit to Ostrich Land

We have been to Ostrich Land many times.   I only have positive things to say about the place.   When you get there you park in the small (there has always been space though) parking lot in front of the main entrance.   The entrance also serves as a gift shop.  It is here that you buy your food to feed the birds.  There are two types of birds to feed at Ostrich Land.  There are Emus and Ostriches.

Pea Soup Andersen's Inn

Our first visit to the Pea Soup Andersen's Inn exceeded our expectations.  We have seen the motel/hotel many times throughout the years.   The front desk desk of Pea Soup Andersen's Inn was especially nice.
We spoke to the owner who was especially nice and place our group of three families all on the same level.
One of the first things we noticed was the sparkling pool.

The Pea Soup Andseren Inn also provided incredible service even after we left the hotel.  My daughter left her Nintendo 3DS and she was very concerned.  Lets just say that it arrived in a package a day later thanks to the vigilant staff at the hotel.

Seein Spots Farm Currently Closed to the Public because of zoning issue

SolvangwithKids.com has enjoyed Seein' Spots Farm over the years.
The owners, specifically Linda as well as her husband and daughter have always been friendly and welcoming to our children and the requested donation was minimal considering the array of animals that we were able to interact with.  We have also taken our extended family and grandparents and had a great time.

Unfortunately, this is the current message posted on their website:

*** We are very sorry, but Seein’ Spots Farm has to close to the public.  The county has granted us an extension with the unexpected condition that public visitation be limited to the “donkey breeding and sales operation.”  We will do everything possible that we can to re-open.  Your support is greatly appreciated.  Thank you all,  Linda Marchi

Here is a petition link posted on their website.

AJ Spurs

350 E Hwy 246, Buellton, CA 93427
(805) 686-1655

We have been to AJ Spurs many times over the years and it does not dissapoint.  In fact we strongly believe that you have not been to the the Solvang area until you visit AJ Spurs in Buelton.   Before you enter AJ Spurs you will notice an array of Western artifacts on the outside of the rather large restaurant.  When you enter AJ Spurs the first thing you will see is a large stuffed buffalo. (taxodermy).
My children always like the toy chest that they keep near the front too.  There is a great children's menu.
Dinner includes beef / vegetable stew, salad, and entree with rice and kettle like potatoes and dessert.

The Book Loft and Hans Christian Anderson Museum

This Solvang bookstore has an incredible children's selection.

There are additional books upstairs as well as some very interesting printing artifacts.  The most interesting section upstairs is the museum celebrating the literature of Hans Christian Anderson.

Royal Copenhagen Inn

This hotel is in the heart of Downtown Solvang.

There was a TV right accross from the two beds that allowed us to
watch the LA Clipper game prior to going to sleep for the night.
Almost directly below our room was the morning continental breakfast.

This visit was during the winter, so we did not go in the swimming pool.
A grass area behind the hotel.
